It’s 20° outside, the leaves have all fallen, it's cloudy, windy and uncomfortable. Throughout the winter months, most people who live in the northeast region of the country experience similar conditions. For many of us, it's a time for holidays, New Year's celebrations, and looking forward to the possibilities of exciting opportunities of the upcoming year. For others it is a time of depression, loneliness, and difficulty. The 2008 year has seen many changes and presented our communities with never before seen challenges. Challenges that have come in many forms - high unemployment rates, soaring expenses and uncertain futures. We have witnessed devastating floods, fires and storms around the world. Yet through all the difficulties that we have seen Hope has endured. Hope is the ever burning ember that keeps us moving forward. Hope that the economic challenges that are affecting so many of our friends and families will not endure for long. Hope that people suffering from the various disasters will recover quickly. Hope that friendship and brotherly love will prevail.
As I stare out the window and observe the cold and windy weather, I look forward to warm fires, good friends, and the enjoyable gatherings of the upcoming holiday season. I am hopeful for a prosperous, healthy and happy new year for all. And I encourage all Masons to step forward, to help aid and assist anyone that may be experiencing difficult times.
My brethren,
You took an oath and obligation to improve yourself and to assist those around you that may need your help. During this holiday season, and the upcoming year please remember that oath and guide yourself accordingly.
